Blinded love by Fortune Cookie is a love story about a boy, Eric who is in deeply in love with a girl in school. My role in the group was the screen writer and actor. However, my movie was discarded because it was too high of a level for my group to handle. Andrew and Vivian were camera men while Leslie acted with me. The MVP in our group is Sabrina who helped a lot throughout the whole movie taking process. She was the director of the story and also took part as a cameo in one of the scenes. Her knowledge of movies helped us plan out where to take the shots and also eliminated any errors we may have gone through to take this movie.
Our group worked well together and we had fun creating this movie. Before we decided on the movie, I suggested making a horror film. The film was suppose to be based on the hit horror movie, Grudge but the equipment and actors required to film this movie was impractical so we had to find a new story. Sabrina then suggested a love story that we all agreed to. It was a good idea as it did not require any costumes or expensive equipment. During production, Sabrina skillfully chose where to take the scenes and also what to say at that moment. She also chose when to use effects and shots where it greatly highlighted the mood of the characters.
What inspired us to create this film was the suggestion by Sabrina. I am not sure what inspired her to make this film but in the end, it turned out well. Our movie, blinded love as stated before is about a boy in love. Eric, the top student of his school is deeply in love with this girl. Like a mad scientist, he mourns for the women of his dreams. This movie however does not show the broad story of how he fell in love with this girl but the scene in which he builds enough courage to ask her out. Our protagonist narrates the story and tells about the times in which he had close contacts with her. Although the flashbacks may seem like failures, in his mind they are accomplishments. At the point in which Eric asks her out, the girl is then met up by her girlfriend in whom Eric finds out horrifically she is lesbian. His heart is then torn into pieces and then thrown away into the bin.
Our film was pretty successful but it could have been a lot better. If we had a longer time, our film could have been more detailed and also lengthier. Another flaw of this movie was the fact that the deans would not allow our group to film in the hallways without supervision so we had to secretly film without getting caught.
My favorite scene is when I am in the band room checking out the girl of my dreams. The close up is funny and I added a bit of humor by picking my nose. Humor aside, the scene also set myself in an environment where the audience got to see the protagonist better. Also, in this scene, Eric finds out there is a problem to his love life and becomes frustrated.
Next time I create a film, I would like to make it much lengthier and a lot more detailed. I would like to create a horror film that would create nightmares in people’s dreams. The knowledge I gained from this project was that making a film is really hard and time consuming. There are so many outside forces acting upon us that almost nothing could be done in the planned time. The most important knowledge I gained from making this movie were the type of camera shot that would be required to emphasize a characters mood or experience. Depending on how the character is placed can change what the audience sees in that character and in our movie; we tried to use that technique.
Five cinematic techniques we use were eye level shot, close up, flash back, narration, and sound effects. The narration was used throughout the movie which I read to sum up what is happening in the story. The close up was used in many scenes such as the scene in which Leslie shouts a name at Eric which displays a deep hatred for him. The flashbacks were also used throughout the scenes and allowed the audience to see what happened in the past of his attempts to get closer to Leslie. Sound effects were used in certain scenes such as the laughter of Eric when he accomplishes to speak with Leslie. An eye level shot was used when the scene was brought to a stalking moment where the camera followed Leslie in the hallways. All these techniques were to broaden the emotion of the characters and allow the audience to see them clearer.
